Your phone can share the signal
Can You Tether on Lebara? Hotspot Rules and Setup
Yes. Lebara lets you use your phone as a WiFi hotspot, so a laptop, tablet or another phone can borrow its mobile data. The borrowed data still comes from your allowance.
No detective work required
Lebara permits tethering and mobile hotspots
Lebara's general terms include using a phone as a modem, which they call tethering, within the mobile internet service.1 Its plan FAQ is plainer still: your data allowance can tether multiple devices or create a mobile hotspot.2
There is no separate secret bucket marked "laptop data". Browsing on a tethered laptop, streaming on a tablet and downloading files on another phone all draw from the Lebara data available to the phone.
The rules that matter
What counts against your data allowance?
All traffic carried through the hotspot counts. That includes websites, cloud storage, app updates, video, music and operating-system downloads. The phone is acting as a small router, not producing complimentary internet from behind the sofa.
Lebara's terms say internet access stops after the plan's data allowance is used, unless the account has a positive credit balance.1 Treat the phone's usage warning as an early nudge rather than a forensic invoice because handset counters and network billing periods may not line up perfectly.
One connected laptop
Usually manageable for email, documents and light browsing. Pause big software updates if the allowance is small.
Several devices
Lebara allows them, but each device can fetch updates or sync files in the background. More passengers still eat from one picnic.
Unlimited plan
Better suited to frequent UK hotspot use, but read the current plan and fair-use terms before treating a phone as permanent home broadband.
If tethering will be more than an occasional rescue rope, compare the current Lebara offer and choose on normal data use, not the suspiciously virtuous week when nobody watched anything.
Mind the quiet downloads
Why a laptop can use more data than expected
A browser tab is rarely the whole story. Computers may sync photographs, fetch system updates, refresh cloud folders and back up files while you are doing something innocent such as checking a train time.
- Usually lightEmail without large attachments, text chat, maps and ordinary web pages.
- Can build steadilyMusic, remote desktop sessions, social feeds and long voice calls.
- Often heavyVideo meetings, HD streaming, game downloads, cloud backups and system updates.
Set the laptop's connection as metered where the operating system offers that option. Pause cloud sync, lower video quality and postpone large updates until ordinary WiFi returns. Also turn off the hotspot when finished so yesterday's tablet does not quietly rejoin today.
Apple route
How to set up a Lebara hotspot on iPhone
Apple's current route is Settings, Personal Hotspot, or Settings, Mobile, Personal Hotspot. Turn on Allow Others to Join and keep that screen open while the other device connects.7
- Confirm mobile data works on the iPhone.Open a webpage with WiFi switched off. A hotspot cannot share a connection the phone does not have.
- Open Personal Hotspot.Use the route above. On a dual-SIM iPhone, check that Lebara is the selected mobile-data line.
- Turn on Allow Others to Join.Review the WiFi password and use a strong one that you have not recycled from somewhere important.
- Join from the second device.Choose the iPhone's name in its WiFi list, enter the hotspot password and wait for the connection indicator.
If Personal Hotspot is missing, restart the iPhone, check for a carrier or iOS update, and confirm mobile data still works. Avoid resetting network settings as the opening move because it also removes saved WiFi networks and related settings. Start with the smaller hammer.
Android route
How to set up a Lebara hotspot on Android
Google says most Android phones can share mobile data by WiFi, Bluetooth or USB.8 Menu names vary, but Hotspot, Mobile Hotspot or Hotspot and tethering are the useful search terms.
- Test mobile data first.Switch off WiFi on the phone and load a webpage.
- Open the hotspot controls.Try the Quick Settings tile, or search Settings for Hotspot and tethering.
- Set the name, security and password.Keep password protection on. An open hotspot is an invitation printed in radio waves.
- Turn the hotspot on.On the laptop or tablet, choose its name from the WiFi list and enter the password.
Samsung usually puts the control under Settings, Connections, Mobile Hotspot and Tethering. Pixel phones normally use Settings, Network and internet, Hotspot and tethering. Other manufacturers move the furniture, so Settings search is often quicker than following a route written for another model.
WiFi is not the only cable-free trick
USB and Bluetooth tethering
A WiFi hotspot is easiest for several devices. USB tethering is often steadier for one laptop and can charge the phone at the same time, though drivers, cables and workplace device policies can get involved. Bluetooth uses less power but is usually slower.
WiFi hotspot
Best for quick setup and more than one device. It normally uses the most phone battery.
USB tethering
Best for one computer and a stable connection. Use a data-capable cable, not a charge-only impostor.
Bluetooth tethering
Useful for low-bandwidth jobs when battery matters more than speed.
Whichever method you choose, the data still comes from the same Lebara allowance. Changing the pipe does not refill the tank.
Fix the right layer
What to check when the hotspot will not work
- Test data on the phone. If the phone itself is offline, fix mobile data, allowance, signal or account status first.
- Forget and rejoin the hotspot.Check the network name and password carefully. An old saved password can survive with astonishing confidence.
- Restart both devices. Then turn the hotspot on before reconnecting the laptop or tablet.
- Try compatibility settings. Some older devices struggle with newer WiFi bands. On iPhone, Maximise Compatibility may help. Android phones may offer a 2.4GHz hotspot band.
- Reduce the test.Connect one device, disable VPN software temporarily and try a simple webpage before adding the rest.
If mobile data works but no device can use the hotspot, tell Lebara support the phone model, software version, physical SIM or eSIM, and the exact point of failure. "It hates my laptop" is emotionally complete but diagnostically thin.
Physical SIM or eSIM
Does Lebara eSIM support tethering?
Yes. Lebara says eSIM supports tethering and personal hotspot features in the same way as a physical SIM.3 If mobile data already works on the phone, Lebara says no extra hotspot settings are required for eSIM.3
On a dual-SIM phone, make sure Lebara is selected for mobile data. Otherwise the hotspot may work perfectly while spending data from the other line, which is technically a success and financially an ambush.
Tethering while roaming needs extra care. The connected devices still use mobile data, but the available allowance and charges depend on the destination and current roaming terms. Check the exact country before travel, turn off background updates and never assume a UK allowance behaves identically abroad.

Quick answers
Lebara tethering questions
Does Lebara allow tethering?
Yes. Lebara's terms include tethering, and its plan FAQ says a data allowance can be used to tether multiple devices or create a mobile hotspot.
Does hotspot use cost extra?
There is no separate hotspot allowance described in the official material checked for this guide. The connected devices use your normal data allowance. Current plan, roaming and pay as you go terms still apply.
Can I connect more than one device?
Yes, Lebara says you can tether multiple devices. Each one can use data in the background, so connect only what you need.
Can I tether on a Lebara eSIM?
Yes. Lebara says eSIM supports tethering and personal hotspots like a physical SIM.
Why is Personal Hotspot missing on my iPhone?
First check that Lebara mobile data works, then restart the phone and install suitable carrier or iOS updates. On a dual-SIM phone, confirm Lebara is the mobile-data line.
Why does my laptop connect but have no internet?
Test mobile data on the phone with WiFi off. If that works, forget the hotspot on the laptop, rejoin with the current password, restart both devices and try one device without a VPN.
