Useful Lebara guides before you switch

Coverage, roaming, international calls, keeping your number and cancelling, explained in plain English.

Network and 5G

Lebara runs on Vodafone

Lebara is a virtual mobile network that uses Vodafone's UK infrastructure. That gives Lebara customers access to Vodafone-powered 4G and 5G coverage without taking a Vodafone handset contract.9

All current Lebara plans include 5G, but you still need a compatible phone and local 5G coverage. Indoor reception can differ from outdoor coverage, so check the places where you actually use your phone.

Useful check

Ofcom's checker shows predicted indoor and outdoor 4G plus outdoor 5G by postcode. Test your home, workplace and regular travel route before moving your number.10

Travel

Roaming in the EU, India and other included areas

Lebara's current roaming finder says customers can use included data, minutes and texts in listed EU and EEA destinations, India and Ukraine at no extra charge, with data limited to 30GB.11

Activate the SIM in the UK before travelling. Destination lists and fair-use rules can change, and some older Lebara pages conflict on India limits, so reopen the destination finder before departure. Outside included areas, standard charges or an add-on may apply.

  • Activate your SIM in the UK before travel
  • Check the exact destination and fair-use limit
  • Download maps and tickets over Wi-Fi
  • Be careful near borders, on ferries and on cruise ships

Calling abroad from the UK

International minutes are built in

Current plans include calls from the UK to selected international destinations. The allowance ranges from 100 minutes on the 5GB and 30GB plans to unlimited minutes on the 100GB and Unlimited Plus plans. Lebara says its plan destinations cover more than 50 countries.12

International minutes are different from roaming. They cover calls made from the UK to included countries, while roaming covers using your phone abroad. Check the country and number type, and remember that unlimited allowances remain subject to personal-use rules.15

Keep your number

Switch with a PAC code

  1. Order and activate your Lebara SIM or compatible eSIM.Make sure the new service works before moving your old number.
  2. Request a PAC from your current network.Text PAC to 65075 from the number you want to keep. The code is valid for 30 days.
  3. Give the PAC to Lebara.Submit it through Lebara's number-transfer process and choose an available migration date.
  4. Keep both SIMs available.Lebara says the transfer typically takes up to two working days.

Lebara's porting page provides the current steps and timing.13

Calls indoors

Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling

Wi-Fi Calling can carry compatible calls and texts through a Wi-Fi connection when ordinary mobile signal is weak. Lebara also supports 4G Calling, often called VoLTE, on compatible devices.5

Support depends on your handset software and settings. If the option is missing, update the phone, restart it after activation and follow Lebara's device instructions.

Digital SIM

Check eSIM compatibility carefully

Lebara now offers eSIM, but the current dedicated help page says new-customer availability begins with Apple iPhone Air and that more devices will be supported later. Existing customers have a separate transition route.14

Because the compatible-device list is changing, do not assume that every eSIM-capable phone can join Lebara by eSIM today. Check your exact model before ordering.

Stay in control

Changing or cancelling a rolling plan

For a 30-day rolling SIM-only plan, Lebara says you can stop the next renewal by turning off auto-renew in your MyLebara account or app.7

Do this before the renewal is processed. If you are transferring your number away, follow the new provider's porting instructions rather than simply cancelling first, otherwise you may lose the number.
