Destination first, bundle second

Lebara Roaming Add-Ons Explained: Data, Destinations and Value

Lebara does not sell one roaming add-on that fits every trip. Pick the country first, then compare the 8-day and 15-day bundles that the finder offers for it.

Start with the finder

A roaming add-on is a short, fixed travel bundle

Lebara's roaming add-ons last for either 8 or 15 days. They are separate from the normal UK plan and cover a fixed amount of roaming data, incoming and outgoing calls, and outgoing texts. Lebara also allows hotspot use from the add-on's data allowance.1

There is a small but important snag: the allowance and price vary by destination group. A screenshot of somebody else's USA bundle tells you very little about Australia or India. Search for the actual country before comparing prices.

If you still need the home plan, open the current Lebara referral plans. Buy the roaming add-on separately after choosing your destination.

Included roaming may be enough: Lebara's finder says normal plans include Roam Like Home use in listed EU and EEA destinations, India and Ukraine, subject to its current limits. In those places, an add-on is mainly useful after the included allowance runs low.1

Do not begin with the price. Begin with the country and whether your UK allowance already works there.

The same price can buy a different data allowance because the bundles belong to different destination groups.

Country groups matter

Check the list on the exact product, not the name alone

RA28 and RA29 list a group that includes Albania, Canada, the Faroe Islands, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Israel, Jersey, Kazakhstan, Lesotho, Macedonia, New Zealand, Russia, Serbia, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and the USA.67

The £4 RA30 page names a much larger and different group, including Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Ghana, Hong Kong, Mexico, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the UAE and Vietnam.2 RA26 and RA27, meanwhile, name India on their product pages.35

Do not treat those examples as a permanent master list. Use Lebara's rate finder, choose the country, and open the product it returns. If the country is missing from that page, do not buy the bundle in hope. Roaming is quite capable of charging for optimism.

Value depends on the trip

The largest data number is not automatically the best buy

  • For a short, light tripan 8-day add-on may cost less and avoid paying for a second week you will not use.
  • For a trip of 9 to 15 daysthe 15-day product avoids having to buy a second 8-day bundle midway through the holiday.
  • For lots of video or hotspot usecompare a local SIM or travel eSIM as well. Even 9GB can disappear quickly when laptops and photo backups join in.
  • For normal calls on your UK numbera roaming add-on is handier than a data-only travel eSIM, provided the country appears on the product page.

A cheap bundle for the wrong country has a very poor cost per gigabyte: infinity, with a side order of airport Wi-Fi. Destination compatibility beats every headline allowance.

The rules behind the bundle

Purchase day counts, and expiry follows UK time

Lebara says validity starts when you buy and runs until 23:59 UK time on day 8 or day 15.1 Buying it three days before departure wastes three days. A safer routine is to buy on the travel day while you still have a reliable UK connection.

The add-on does not auto-renew. If it runs out, you can buy another one; otherwise standard PAYG roaming rates apply if you have credit.7 Keep an eye on the allowance rather than relying on the calendar alone.

Calls to numbers in the country you are visiting and calls back to the UK use the minute pot. Incoming calls use it too. Outgoing texts within the visited country or back to the UK use the text pot, while incoming texts are free.7

A five-minute check

Before you pay for a roaming add-on

  1. Search the exact country.Use Lebara's roaming rate finder rather than a saved product link.
  2. Check whether Roam Like Home already covers it.If it does, inspect your remaining normal allowance before buying extra data.
  3. Read the country list on the product.Match the destination, price, days, data, minutes and texts.
  4. Buy close to departure. The purchase day counts and the bundle expires according to UK time.
  5. Save proof and test gently.Screenshot the active add-on, then open one small page after arrival before starting downloads.

The published opt-in codes are RA30, RA26, RA28, RA25, RA29 and RA27 for the products shown above.234 A code is convenient, but the website gives you a much better chance to spot a country mismatch before paying.

Quick answers

Lebara roaming add-on questions

How much is a Lebara roaming add-on?

Current official product pages show examples from £4 to £12. The available price and allowance depend on the country selected, so use the roaming rate finder for your destination.

Do all £5 add-ons include the same data?

No. Current £5 eight-day pages include examples with 2.5GB and 4GB for different destination groups.

Does the add-on renew automatically?

No. Lebara says its roaming add-ons do not auto-renew. Buy another before the allowance or validity ends, or PAYG rates can apply if you continue using the service.

Are incoming calls free?

No. Incoming roaming calls use the included minute allowance. Incoming texts are free.

Can I use a hotspot?

Lebara's roaming finder says you can hotspot from the add-on's data allowance. Watch laptops, cloud sync and updates because they can empty a small bundle quickly.

When should I buy the add-on?

On the travel day, preferably while you still have a dependable UK connection. The validity starts at purchase and ends at 23:59 UK time on the final day.
