A UK SIM on a Moroccan network
Lebara Roaming in Morocco: Data Costs, Add-Ons and What to Check
Morocco is outside Lebara UK's included roaming area, so your ordinary UK allowance does not follow you there. Lebara currently sells two Morocco-compatible roaming add-ons. Buy the right one close to departure, keep an eye on its modest data allowance and check your settings before assuming the signal has failed.
The first distinction
Morocco is not part of Lebara UK's Roam Like Home area
Lebara's UK roaming guidance says standard charges apply outside its included EU, India and China areas unless you buy an appropriate add-on. Morocco sits outside that included group.1
This guide covers a UK-issued Lebara SIM used while you are in Morocco. It does not cover a Moroccan Lebara account, and it is not a guide to buying a separate travel eSIM.
There is another easy mix-up. International minutes for calling Morocco from Britain are not roaming minutes. The first is a call that starts in the UK. Roaming begins when your UK SIM connects to a mobile network abroad. A plan can be useful for one and costly for the other.
If you are choosing a UK SIM for everyday use, compare the live Lebara referral plans. Treat the Morocco trip as a separate price check rather than assuming a larger UK allowance solves it.
The live Morocco options
Lebara's 8-day and 15-day roaming add-ons
Lebara currently lists Morocco on two UK roaming add-ons. The 8-day option is £4 and includes 1GB of roaming data, 10 roaming minutes and 10 roaming texts.2 The 15-day option is £12 and includes 3GB, 30 roaming minutes and 30 roaming texts.3
| Add-on | Price | Data | Calls | Texts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 days | £4 | 1GB | 10 minutes | 10 texts |
| 15 days | £12 | 3GB | 30 minutes | 30 texts |
The validity begins on the day you buy, not when the phone first joins a Moroccan network. Lebara recommends buying in the UK on the day of travel.2 Buy too early and part of the allowance expires while your passport is still in a drawer.
Calls made within Morocco and calls back to the UK use the voice allowance. Incoming calls also use those minutes.3 The add-on terms cover local use and calls back to Britain, so do not assume a call from Morocco to a third country is included.
Prices, destination groups and allowances can change. Reopen the official product page in MyLebara before paying and make sure Morocco is still named.
Match the package to the trip
Will 1GB or 3GB be enough?
One gigabyte can cover maps, messages, occasional web searches, ride bookings and digital boarding passes if Wi-Fi handles everything heavy. It will not last kindly through video, cloud photo backup or a laptop hotspot.
Three gigabytes gives a longer trip more room, but it is still a travel allowance rather than a replacement for home broadband. Automatic app updates can chew through it without producing anything memorable.
The phone's data counter is useful for an early warning. MyLebara remains the account record, so compare both rather than treating the handset estimate as an invoice.
Use hotel or other trusted Wi-Fi for app updates, film downloads and photo backup. Download offline maps before leaving Britain. If your phone supports it, turn on low-data mode and restrict background data for the greediest apps.
Ten minutes before the airport
Prepare the Lebara SIM in the UK
- Activate and test the SIM in Britain.Lebara says a SIM must be activated in the UK before travel or roaming will not work abroad.1
- Check Morocco on the live add-on page.Do not rely on a saved screenshot or an old search result for the country list.
- Buy close to departure. The clock starts on the purchase day, so buying well in advance wastes validity.
- Confirm the add-on in MyLebara.Save a screenshot of the allowance and expiry while you have reliable Wi-Fi.
- Download what you need.Offline maps, tickets, accommodation details and translation packs are cheap insurance.
- Switch off background downloads.Pause cloud backup and automatic updates before mobile data meets the Moroccan network.
- Enable roaming only after arrival checks.Connect to Wi-Fi first, confirm the add-on is active, then turn on data roaming for the correct SIM.
Signal bars are only the beginning
If Lebara roaming is not working in Morocco
- Check the add-on over Wi-Fi.Confirm that it appears in MyLebara, has not expired and still has an allowance left.
- Restart the phone. This forces a fresh attempt to register on the local network.
- Check the selected SIM.On a dual-SIM phone, make sure Lebara is selected for the service you want and data roaming is enabled on that line only.
- Use automatic network selection first. If it cannot connect, try the available partner networks shown by the handset, one at a time.
- Separate the symptoms.Test one web page, one text and one short call. Working texts do not prove that mobile data is configured.
- Check the APN last.Lebara's current guidance gives
uk.lebara.mobiwithWAPas both username and password. Save it and restart.1
If the account looks right and the phone still refuses to cooperate, contact Lebara over Wi-Fi. Its support page lists live chat, 5588 from a Lebara SIM and +44 207 0310791 from another network or outside the UK.4
When a small add-on is the wrong tool
Compare a local SIM or travel eSIM for heavier use
A Moroccan local SIM or a reputable travel eSIM may suit you better if you need much more than 3GB, plan to tether a laptop or will stay longer than the add-on period. Compare the full price, data amount, expiry, hotspot rules and whether voice calls are included.
A travel eSIM is a separate product. It does not add data to your Lebara balance. On a compatible dual-SIM phone, you can keep the Lebara line active for incoming texts while sending mobile data through the travel line. Check the data-line setting carefully, because phones are remarkably obedient when told to use the expensive SIM.
Do not delete an installed eSIM until you know whether the provider allows it to be downloaded again. Keep the QR code and setup details somewhere safe, but never publish or share them.
If you already have Lebara, try the account and setup checks before buying anything else. If you are still deciding on a UK plan for use at home, check the current referral offer and price the Morocco connection separately.
Short answers
Lebara Morocco roaming questions
Can I use my normal Lebara UK data in Morocco?
No. Morocco is outside Lebara UK's included roaming group. Use a Morocco-compatible roaming add-on or another clearly priced option.
Which Lebara add-on covers Morocco?
Lebara currently lists Morocco on an 8-day £4 add-on with 1GB, 10 minutes and 10 texts, and a 15-day £12 add-on with 3GB, 30 minutes and 30 texts.
Does the add-on start when I land?
No. Lebara says it starts on the purchase day, which is why buying close to departure matters.
Are incoming calls free in Morocco?
No. The current add-on terms say incoming calls use the roaming voice allowance.
Is calling Morocco from the UK the same as roaming there?
No. International minutes cover an eligible call made from Britain. Roaming concerns the UK SIM connecting abroad.
