Lebara eSIM guide
Lebara eSIM: What Works Now, What Does Not and How to Set It Up
Lebara does offer eSIM, but the route depends on whether you are joining or already have a Lebara number. That small distinction does a heroic amount of work.
The straight answer
Lebara eSIM exists, but it is not an open door for every new customer
Lebara's current help page says a new customer can buy an eSIM plan online when joining with an Apple iPhone Air. It also says eSIM is currently unavailable on other devices for new purchases. Existing customers have a separate route through Customer Services.1
That means an eSIM-ready Pixel, Samsung Galaxy or older iPhone is not automatically eligible for a new Lebara eSIM. The phone may contain all the right hardware while Lebara's sales process still says no. Technology does enjoy making a simple yes-or-no question answerable with "it depends".
If you are a new customer with the supported iPhone, the referral route is worth checking. Confirm that eSIM is offered for your exact order and that the introductory price appears before you pay. If you have another handset, do not buy first and hope the digital SIM appears later.
Two separate gates
eSIM hardware support and Lebara eligibility are not the same thing
Apple says iPhone XS, XS Max and XR or later can support eSIM, provided the network provider supports it. Google says Pixel 4 and later phones work with eSIM, but also tells users to check with their operator.23
Those broad hardware lists do not override Lebara's narrower new-customer policy. A compatible chip merely gets the phone to the first gate. Lebara must admit the model through the second.
Gate one: the phone
- Look for an EID after dialling *#06#
- Check for "Add eSIM" in the SIM settings
- Confirm the exact model, not just the product family
Gate two: Lebara
- Check whether you are a new or existing customer
- Read the current supported-device wording
- Do not assume general eSIM support means order eligibility
Eligible new customers
Set up the line somewhere with reliable internet
Lebara says the website order confirmation includes the QR code as an email attachment. The phone needs an internet connection to download and activate the eSIM. Lebara also says the service must be activated in the UK, even if the order was placed while abroad.1
- Use an email address you can open on another screen.A laptop or tablet makes scanning the QR code much less theatrical.
- Join dependable Wi-Fi.The eSIM has to download before it can provide mobile service.
- Open the QR attachment. On iPhone, scan it with the Camera app and tap the Mobile Plan Detected prompt. Apple also allows a QR code in a supported email or browser to be pressed and held, then added directly.2
- Enter the confirmation code if requested.Lebara's manual route uses the SM-DP+ address, activation code and a separately supplied confirmation code.1
- Name the line and test it.Turn off Wi-Fi, load a webpage, make a short call and send a text before changing anything else.
Apple's menu wording may appear as Mobile Service, Cellular or Mobile Data depending on region and software. The useful destination is Add eSIM, not a word-for-word scavenger hunt through Settings.2
Already with Lebara
Migration is a support job, not a settings shortcut
Existing customers can ask Lebara Customer Services to move their line to eSIM. Lebara says support will guide the setup. If an eSIM later moves to another phone, support must issue a new QR code, and the current eSIM stops working when the new one becomes active.1
Do not use an iPhone's generic "Convert to eSIM" or transfer prompt unless Lebara has confirmed that route for your account. Apple makes clear that conversion and quick transfer depend on network-provider support.2
Bringing a number to Lebara
Activate first, then port the number
Lebara's order of operations is clear: activate the Lebara eSIM, text PAC to 65075 from the old network's SIM, then submit the port-in request for the date you choose.1
Keep the old line working while the transfer is pending. A PAC moves the number from the old provider to Lebara; it does not install the eSIM profile. Treat installation and number porting as two separate jobs and there is much less scope for a blank signal bar and a long sigh.
The QR code wrinkle
Lebara's help page gives two different rules, so keep the email
One answer says a new QR code must be downloaded within 40 days. Another calls the QR code single-use. Farther down the same page, Lebara says a code generated on or after 26 February 2026 can be used to reinstall the eSIM and remains valid for 180 days from issue.1
The safest reading is practical rather than philosophical: keep the original email, do not delete a working profile as a troubleshooting experiment, and use the instructions attached to your code. If the code fails, request a replacement from Lebara rather than repeatedly scanning it at increasingly annoyed angles.
When the answer is no
A physical SIM is not a defeat
If you are new to Lebara and do not have an Apple iPhone Air, the physical SIM is the simple Lebara route for now. You still get the same mobile number, plan and network service. You merely have to meet a small piece of plastic.
If eSIM is non-negotiable because your phone has no SIM tray, you need instant activation or you regularly switch digital lines, compare another provider whose official compatibility list includes your exact device. Our broader UK eSIM setup guide explains the checks without assuming Lebara is the answer.
Otherwise, compare the live Lebara plans and order the physical version. The referral discount can still be useful, but check the selected SIM type, price and eligibility in the order summary.

Quick answers
Questions about Lebara eSIM
Can a new Lebara customer get an eSIM?
Yes, but Lebara currently says the online new-customer route is for Apple iPhone Air users. It says eSIM is currently unavailable on other devices for new purchases.1
Can an existing Lebara customer switch to eSIM?
Lebara says existing customers should contact Customer Services, which will guide the migration.1
Does Lebara eSIM work on Pixel or Samsung?
Those phones may contain eSIM hardware, but that does not make them eligible for every Lebara route. Lebara's current page limits new eSIM purchases to iPhone Air and directs existing customers to support. Check your exact situation before changing anything.13
Can I keep my number?
Yes. Lebara says to activate the new eSIM first, request a PAC from the old provider by texting PAC to 65075, then submit the port-in request.1
Can I activate a Lebara eSIM abroad?
Lebara says you may order while outside the UK, but you must be in the UK to activate the service.1
Should I delete the eSIM if it stops working?
No. Restart the phone and check the line settings first. Lebara warns that deleting the profile stops service on that device. Keep the QR email and request a replacement if the code no longer works.1
